Beetles Drop
Huskies in Ten
August 6, 2008
By Topher Davis, Duluth Huskies
The Duluth Huskies hit the road on Wednesday to start the season
ending six game road trip in Alexandria, Minnesota. The
Huskies entered the contest coming off of a win over the first
place Thunder Bay Border
Cats
in the home finale on Tuesday. Unfortunately for Duluth, a
late rally was spoiled by the host Alexandria Beetles as the
Huskies fell 6-5 in 10 innings.
Duluth looked to continue their momentum by sending University of
Minnesota-Duluth pitcher Josh Foreman (pictured left) to
the mound for the start against the Beetles in Alexandria.
Foreman was given a 1-0 after Duluth scored in the top of the
first inning, but Alexandria was able to jump into the lead with
two runs in the bottom of the first. The Huskies were then
able to take the lead again in the top of the fifth with three
runs that made the score 4-3 in favor of Duluth, but again
Alexandria pushed across two runs in the bottom of the inning
regaining the lead. The Huskies then tied the game with a
ninth inning rally knotting the score at 5-5, before Alexandria
pushed across the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th
handing Duluth the loss.
For the game, Foreman threw 4 1/3 innings allowing five
runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out four. Foreman
was then relieved by Sam Murphy who worked the next 4 2/3
innings without allowing a run on two hits while walking one and
striking out three. Robbie Wort took
the loss after working 1/3 of an inning allowing one run on no
hits while walking three and striking out one.
At the plate the Huskies managed to score five runs on only five
hits, by five different players. Outfielder Chris House
(pictured right) went 1 for 2 with a RBI and a two runs scored
while Robby Price picked up a RBI and designated hitter
Tyler Steen had a hit and scored a run.
The Huskies and Beetles will face off once again on Thursday night
in Alexandria when Duluth will send Rice University left hander
Andy Hamilton (3-0) to the mound. Game time in
Alexandria is 6:05 PM.
